Why Leak Detection Matters

Naturally, all homeowners are keen to make their home look as good as possible, but sometimes certain issues go undetected which can result in damage. One area that is often neglected is leak detection, because people don’t know how to do it or don’t know what they’re looking for, but now would be a good time to familiarise yourself with it.

Some neglect leaking because it is silent and often unnoticeable for lengthy periods of time. Of course, unless you’re looking under the sink, for example, how would you know there was a leak? That’s why becoming an expert at leak detection is so important. By getting the small leak sorted out, you prevent a large leak turning into a flood. If your home does end up bring subject to flooding then you have to call in the flood restoration specialists. Water is damaging and that’s why it is important that you’re aware of how to detect leaks.

Read on for some top leak detection tips:

•Look at the taps – have a look around the home and see if there is any dripping. Even a slight drip can develop into something larger if not properly monitored. Don’t forget to look underneath pipes and areas hidden away, as these can sometimes indicate the first signs of flooding.

•Are your valves closed? – a common error, but one that is easily resolved if done in time – simply check to make sure the pipe valves are closed so there is no risk of any leakage.

•Check the pipe age – our homes today are filled with multiple appliances but if you keep on top of the pipes and make sure they are still in good condition then this will help to prevent any leaks. Leak detection starts with the most basic of homeowner checks.

Remember, if you suspect that there may be some leaking the best thing is to take an old cloth and place it under the area where you suspect the leak, then check if after about 48 hours to see if there is any damp present. If there has been some leaking, contact your plumber and don’t delay!
