I have to be honest, I had no idea at all what this was until a friend of mine took me round to his house. He took me up to his room and showed me his 4 poster bed. He then proceeded to take me into his daughters bedroom who also had a 4 poster girls bed.

It was identical in every way apart from the size of the bed and obviously the mattress as well. Now, personally I thought it was a little bit far-fetched getting a 6 year old girl an identical bed as her parents.

However when he told me that she used to be up a couple of times a night coming in to the parents and they were getting no sleep, it was only when they got her a new 4 poster bed that she started to sleep through the night. To be honest that is a small price to pay for a goods night sleep.

What is especially great about these beds is that they will last until the girl is in her late teens as it is big enough. This means that the parents won’t have to go out and buy another bed when she is a teenager. Now these types of beds aren’t for every body as you can imagine. Other kids will prefer the themed bed option.

Novelty beds are the in thing at the moment for kids. The childrens beds that fall into this category are race car beds, digger beds, princess castle beds, fire engine beds etc. Basically, there is no limit to the imagination of the sort of kids bed you can buy. You have to understand one thing very early on if you do purchase one of these beds. At some stage your child will grow out of them. Just make sure that you get a minimum of 5 years use out of the bed.

There is no shortage of themed beds on the market. Just recently, one of my friends said that she wanted a Dora The Explorer Bed. So the parents drove to every bed shop in the city and eventually tracked down the Dora The Explorer bed. Now by all accounts this was a fairly expensive bed and the parents were really stretching themselves to be able to afford it. But they wanted to appease their little princess who was 3 years old.

A few weeks later the bed arrived and the little princess was thrilled to bits. That was until a week later she was over in her friends house who was also 3 except her friend had a bed that was a princess bed. Upon being picked up by her Mum she told her that she no longer wanted Dora and wanted a princess bed.

Now, you can imagine the Mum and Dad who spent all the money on the bed and what they were thinking. Normally, you would think that the child would get over it but 6 months later she is still throwing temper tantrums and going to be late at night. Fortunately, the parents haven’t relented.
